Official exchange-rate equivalent
This uses the World Bank’s 2025 period-average official exchange-rate series. It converts money, not purchasing power.
Compare what a salary is really worth between countries using exchange rates and purchasing-power parity—then use KalQLater’s country calculators for taxes, living costs and personal savings.
Compare SalariesOne salary, two comparisons: a dated exchange-rate conversion and a PPP-based salary benchmark.

KalQLater applies the World Bank’s 2025 household-consumption PPP factors. It is a broad benchmark, not a recommended offer.

Compare an Australian offer after tax and super →How to read this: This is a KalQLater calculation using World Bank household-consumption PPP factors. PPP is an economy-level purchasing-power measure, not an official recommended salary or personal cost-of-living calculation.
A PPP salary calculator estimates the salary in another country that would represent approximately similar broad purchasing power. This salary converter by country adjusts for national price-level differences using official purchasing-power-parity factors. It does not calculate take-home pay, exact living costs or the salary you should accept.
Equivalent salary can mean three different things. Mixing them creates a confident-looking but misleading answer.
| Comparison | Currency conversion | PPP conversion | Real-life salary requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it measures | Currency value at a dated exchange rate | Broad household purchasing power | Your likely disposable income and savings |
| Data used | Period-average exchange rates | Household-consumption PPP factors | Tax, city costs and personal inputs |
| Best use | Translating money between currencies | Initial international salary parity benchmark | Evaluating a real job offer |
| Main limitation | Ignores price-level differences | Ignores personal circumstances | Available only where inputs are validated |
Salary parity means comparing pay after accounting for what money can buy in each location—not merely converting the currency.
A salary parity calculator, sometimes called a pay parity calculator, can provide a broad PPP benchmark. Exact parity for a person also depends on tax, city, housing, household size, healthcare, transport, debt, remittances and savings expectations.
A useful salary comparison between countries moves from the broadest number to the most personal one.
Using the common 2025 dataset, an Indian salary of ₹20 lakh converts to about A$35,613 at the period-average exchange rate, but its PPP-based salary equivalent is about A$147,648.
Neither amount is an Australian salary recommendation. The difference shows why a currency converter and a purchasing-power salary calculator answer different questions.
These values are generated from the calculator’s verified 2025 household-consumption PPP formula.

These are KalQLater PPP-based salary equivalents calculated from World Bank PPP factors, not official World Bank salary figures or recommended job-offer salaries. Tax, housing and personal costs are not included.
Under the 2025 household-consumption PPP model, KalQLater’s PPP-based salary benchmark for US$100,000 is about ₹19,83,892 of broad Indian purchasing power. The period-average currency conversion is about ₹87,15,845.
The PPP-based value is not a claim that every US$100,000 job is equivalent to that exact Indian salary for every household.
₹20 lakh converted at an exchange rate is not automatically an equivalent overseas salary. The destination may have higher housing, tax, healthcare or transport costs, while an Indian EMI or family support continues in rupees.
Use PPP for the broad benchmark, then test the offer using destination-specific after-tax costs and savings.
PPP is a macroeconomic price-level comparison; it is not a personal cost-of-living budget.
The selected World Bank indicator covers household and non-profit-institution final consumption across an economy. Your actual basket may be dominated by a particular city’s rent, private healthcare, schooling, commuting or travel—none of which PPP personalises.
Use PPP for broad salary equivalence. Use a country calculator to decide whether a real offer improves your financial life.
Test the offer after Dubai housing, transport, India EMI, family support and expected savings.
Separate base pay from super, estimate resident tax and compare city-specific costs and savings.
Both calculations use values from the same 2025 reference year. Salary frequency is annualised before calculation and converted back to the selected display frequency.
current salary ÷ current-country PPP factor × destination-country PPP factorcurrent salary ÷ current-country FX factor × destination-country FX factor(PPP-based salary equivalent ÷ currency equivalent − 1) × 100The PPP factors use World Bank indicator PA.NUS.PRVT.PP: PPP conversion factor, households and NPISHs final consumption expenditure, measured in local currency units per international dollar. This consumption-focused indicator was selected instead of GDP PPP because the question concerns household purchasing power. The exchange comparison uses PA.NUS.FCRF: Official exchange rate.
Methodology limitation: PA.NUS.PRVT.PP measures household and private-consumption purchasing power and is designed for broad cross-country comparisons. Applying it to an individual salary creates an approximate KalQLater benchmark. It does not account for personal tax, city-level rent, household composition, debt, remittances or savings goals. Use the Dubai calculator or Australia calculator for deeper personal modelling.

A PPP salary calculator estimates the salary in another country that represents similar broad purchasing power. KalQLater divides the current salary by the current country’s household-consumption PPP factor and multiplies it by the destination factor. It is a macroeconomic benchmark, not a take-home-pay or job-offer recommendation.
Currency conversion uses market exchange rates to translate one currency into another. PPP conversion adjusts for differences in national price levels. The two figures answer different questions and can be far apart.
Start with currency conversion, compare household purchasing power with PPP, then account for destination tax, housing, household costs, personal obligations and expected savings. The last steps require a country-specific calculator rather than PPP alone.
No. A PPP-based salary equivalent does not know your tax status, city, rent, family size, debt, healthcare, transport, lifestyle or savings target. Use it as an initial benchmark and test the actual offer with a detailed destination calculator where available.
For the PPP comparison, divide salary by the current country’s PPP conversion factor and multiply by the destination country’s factor. For a currency conversion, repeat the calculation with the two exchange-rate factors. Always use factors from the same indicator and reference year.
