Test My Australian OfferChoose a city, enter the offer and tell us whether super is inside or outside the quoted amount. The default tax model assumes a full-year Australian resident in 2026–27.
Under the inputs entered, the offer clears the after-tax target for a meaningful savings improvement.
Full-year 2026–27 Australian resident assumption. Each entered earner is taxed separately.
Tax limitation: no family-based Medicare levy reductions, levy exemptions, deductions, salary packaging, HELP/HECS debt, Medicare levy surcharge, foreign income, investment income, capital gains, part-year residence or special tax-residency treatment. This is not professional tax advice.
The engine solves for taxable base salary after income tax, LITO and Medicare. Each card also shows the total-package equivalent including 12% super.
Threshold values are taxable base cash salary with employer super paid on top. If your offer is a total package including super, compare it with the package equivalent. The selected quote type is converted to base cash before the offer is judged.
Profession benchmark: not yet verified. Age, profession and experience do not change this result.
India living costs are user-entered; Australian costs are itemised estimates for Melbourne.

Start with estimated take-home pay, then subtract city housing, groceries, transport, travel and continuing Indian commitments. The calculator converts that after-tax requirement back into four transparent annual gross salary thresholds.
A good Australian salary for an Indian is one that covers Australian housing and living costs after tax, continues any Indian EMI and family support, and still delivers the savings improvement that makes relocation worthwhile. There is no honest universal figure because Sydney rent, Adelaide rent, household size and remittances produce different answers.
Enter your offer, city and commitments in the calculator ↑ to see your minimum viable, same-lifestyle, comfortable and life-upgrade salary.
The figures below treat each amount as annual base cash salary with super paid on top. They show estimated monthly take-home before rent or living costs under this page’s full-year resident tax assumptions. A package that includes super produces a lower cash base.

Rent: Domain June 2026 and September 2026 room listings. Brisbane’s A$22 is a KalQLater planning estimate based on 44 journeys per month at the official A$0.50 Translink fare—not an official monthly pass. Other costs are dated market estimates and remain editable.
The calculator applies progressive 2026–27 resident rates, subtracts the applicable Low Income Tax Offset once, and applies the standard individual Medicare levy phase-in. It taxes an entered spouse separately instead of treating two incomes as one taxpayer.
Estimated take-home = base cash salary − max(0, base income tax − LITO) − Medicare levy. The model excludes family-based levy reductions, exemptions, deductions, salary packaging, HELP/HECS debt, the Medicare levy surcharge and special residency situations. It is a planning estimate, not professional tax advice.
Multiplying a gross AUD salary by an exchange rate ignores employer super, Australian income tax and local prices. This calculator uses a dated 68.25 INR-per-AUD reference rate and compares savings only after Australian living costs and Indian commitments.
Australian offers can put employer super outside the quoted base salary or inside a total remuneration package. Those two A$100,000 offers do not produce the same spendable income.
base cash = entered salary; employer super = base cash × 12%base cash = entered package ÷ 1.12; employer super = package − base cashTax and Medicare are calculated from the estimated base cash salary. Employer super is shown separately as retirement savings and is excluded from current take-home cash, monthly savings and wealth milestones. The 12% rate is the official 2026–27 general Super Guarantee rate; actual employment arrangements can differ.
Monthly savings = household Australian take-home − local living costs − Indian EMI − family support.
The result is shown in AUD and INR, then compared with your entered monthly India savings. No investment return, salary growth or future exchange rate is assumed.
Profession and experience remain inputs, but this page displays “Profession benchmark not yet verified.” It does not generate an occupation salary range from unverified job-board data. The current output is based on the offer you enter.
The recommended buffer combines 14 nights of temporary accommodation, a four-week rental bond allowance, two weeks of initial rent, basic setup, three months of essential Australian costs and three months of continuing Indian commitments.

This calculator is general planning information, not tax, financial or migration advice. Read the site methodology or report an issue through the corrections policy.
A good Australian salary is one that leaves enough after resident income tax, the Medicare levy, city-specific housing and living costs, continuing commitments and your savings target. The calculator solves for that personal threshold.
For someone moving from India, the useful threshold must also include Indian EMI, family support and the savings improvement expected from moving. A currency conversion alone cannot answer that question.
It can be workable for a single person under some city and housing choices, but Sydney rent, a private unit, debt or remittances can materially change the outcome. Enter the city and commitments rather than treating AUD 80,000 as universally good or bad.
AUD 100,000 provides more after-tax room than AUD 80,000, but the result still depends on city, household, housing, Indian obligations and desired savings. The calculator shows the estimated monthly remainder.
The default model first separates base cash salary from employer super, then applies the 2026–27 full-year Australian resident income-tax brackets, the low income tax offset where applicable and the standard Medicare levy phase-in. Employer super is not treated as current spendable income.
For base salary plus super, the entered salary is taxable cash and 12% employer super is shown on top. For a package including super, the calculator divides the package by 1.12 to estimate base cash salary, then calculates tax and take-home from that base.
Estimated savings equal household after-tax Australian income minus local living costs, Indian EMI and family support. The result is shown in AUD and converted to INR using the editable planning rate.
KalQLater's planning buffer adds temporary accommodation, a rental bond allowance, initial rent, setup costs, three months of essential living costs and three months of continuing Indian commitments. It is not a government proof-of-funds requirement.
No. Australia has employer-sponsored, independent, state-nominated, regional, temporary and permanent skilled routes with different criteria. Permanent residence is not automatic and proof-of-funds rules depend on the exact subclass.
Values last verified 19 September 2026. Market estimates can change; tax and migration requirements should be rechecked before acting.
